ABSTRACT

Social progress’ defined as the capacity of a society to meet the basic human needs of its citizens, establish the building blocks that allow citizens and communities to enhance and sustain the quality of their lives, and create the conditions for all individuals to reach their full potential. Porter and other 2016 ), The Social Progress Index SPI provides a holistic, objective, transparent, outcome-based measure of a country’s wellbeing that is independent of economic indicators.

According to the SPI data, the world SPI is improving but progress is slow and uneven (SPI Methodological report), in other side and across the world we observe improve in humanity lives and their future prospects (MDG report, 2018). The SPI was estimated for Sudan only once between 2012 and 2018 reports.

This paper aim to estimate SPI in Gezira State – Sudan using house hold survey data conducted in February 2021, data collected using face to face interview with computer assistance CAPI, total of 852 interview was successfully completed with 95% confidence interval and 3.3 _+ Marginal error, the result shows that there is improvement in freedom and access justice related components comparing with the regional data, affected positively in the progress of Gezira State index, although environment and education indicators still in the lowest level, however the indicators of the basic need and foundation wellbeing specially maternal and infant mortality and utilities services lead the indicator to skip 16 level heading to the world average, between 2018 and 2021 in Gezira state.
